About the Event

On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. Some areas in the path of the total solar eclipse will experience a darkened sky as if it were dawn or dusk. Atlanta is within the eclipse path but will not experience darkened skies. Atlanta will experience a partial solar eclipse, where the Moon blocks part of the Sun. Attendees will be able to hang out with the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance at the Historic Atlanta Black Cracker Practice Field to view the solar eclipse. Enjoy the sounds of nature, the power of play, craft activities, and more. In Atlanta, the eclipse will begin at 1:45 PM, the eclipse will reach its maximum coverage at 3:04 PM, and the eclipse will end at 4:21 PM. During this time, you will be able to use solar eclipse glasses to see the moon covering the sun (!!SAFETY FIRST!! Viewing the eclipse without solar eclipse glasses can cause eye injury). Solar glasses will be available, while supplies last. This is a pack it in, pack it out event. Please clean up and take any personal items and trash with you.
