One of the biggest events in Gerry Chevrier's life was when the USA landed on the moon. It was that magical event that sparked his interest in space and telescopes. At age 17, he purchased a small refractor telescope and starting looking at the moon. When Gerry got older, he purchased a more powerful unit and started inviting friends over to look at star clusters, nebulas and galaxies. He now owns an even larger telescope that is located in a dome in Oxford, Michigan. Gerry enjoys putting on programs in the dome for local youth and community groups. He believes astronomy stirs scientific curiosity in young people because it is an exciting, visual science.
