When Ted Williams was young, becoming an Eagle Scout required one to have camping experience. Those camping experiences lead Ted to develop a keen appreciation of the night sky. Not having much to see growing up in a city lead to a fascination with what waited away from the city lights. That early interest of discovering more each time one looked would drive his career path. Ted was always excited to share and explain things he discovered, which lead him to a career in teaching. Early in his education career, Ted was awarded the position of Earth and Space Science teacher in a Philadelphia middle school. His interest in teaching astronomy, lead him to his first telescope purchase. Ted felt this was necessary to truly experience the thrill of finding deep sky objects or nearby planets to better convey his excitement when talking about them to his students. Something amazing happened to Ted at that middle school. The school obtained a portable planetarium that he and his students would climb into as it inflated around them not only amazed and engaged his students to discover, it inspired him to learn more. As that experience grew, and his excitement for all things astronomical increased, it lead him to a position as a weekend and evening lecturer in a nearby museum planetarium. Ten years of exploring the night sky with visiting audiences lead to a planetarium position in a local school district where I currently explore the universe daily with students of all ages and backgrounds.
