Solar System Ambassadors
Mike Lucas
Mike Lucas has lived his childhood dream of being an airline pilot. He has recently retired as Captain of the Airbus A-320. In his 48 years in aviation, he has logged more than 26,000 flight hours. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Capt. Lucas has had a fascination with spaceflight since childhood, and clearly remembers NASA's early years. He was very fortunate as a teenager to meet and become friends with Alan Shepard. Over the years he has had occasion to meet most of the other astronauts who made history in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. Presentations generally address NASA history and the human spaceflight programs leading to the lunar landing missions. Additional subjects include JPL robotic missions exploring our Solar System. Audiences range in age from middle school students to adults.
