Robert Bigelow has been interested in space exploration and astronomy since elementary school. He received a degree in physics from the University of Utah and he is an amateur astronomer. Retired after nearly 27 years at Clark Planetarium (formerly Hansen Planetarium) where he gave presentations on science and astronomy both at the Planetarium and in schools throughout Utah.
