Solar System Ambassadors
Larry Wiss
Larry’s interest in Space exploration was stirred in childhood hearing radio signals from Sputnik. Watching Neal Armstrong step onto the Moon was also very impactful. Former work researching/creating demos for the ISS education program Star Station One provided opportunities to learn about space science and human exploration firsthand. He's toured the Space Shuttle and Space Station preparation/launch facilities at Kennedy and Johnson Space Centers and JPL; and participated in hands-on workshops at Astronaut training facilities. Larry feels that, "My work with NASA has heightened my interest in Space exploration, being a Solar System Ambassador provides an ideal platform for sharing my enthusiasm and will hopefully inspire others to continue reaching towards the stars." Larry is employed as Manager of the Hokulani Imaginariumin of the Center for Aerospace Education (CAE) at Windward Community College, Kaneohe, HI. He also guides K-12 school groups through hands-on activities in the Aerospace Exploration Lab and presents public astronomy programs. He's a member of the Hawaiian Astronomical Society and volunteers with robotics education programs. He enjoys experiencing moments of micro-gravity through his hobby of skydiving.
