Edmond Wilson
Dr. Edmond W. Wilson, Jr. is Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Physical Science at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. He is a member of the Arkansas Robotics Group and is designing and testing a diode laser water vapor spectrometer to survey water vapor levels on Mars. He is also a member of a collaborative effort to design sensors for studying hybrid rocket exhaust plumes. He and his students are building a hydroponic plant growth chamber for studies related to a manned habitat on the Moon or Mars. Dr. Wilson earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Auburn University, Auburn Alabama and received Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Physical Chemistry from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Dr. Wilson spent two years as a Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia in the area of biophysical chemistry doing spectroscopic studies of biochemical systems. He also spent two summers at JPL as a NASA/ASEE Summer Faculty Fellow working in atmospheric spectroscopic studies. He has published fifteen scientific papers. Dr. Wilson has received recent grants from the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund, Arkansas Science and Technology Authority, Arkansas Space Grant Consortium and the NASA EPSCoR Program. Dr. Wilson presently teaches physical chemistry at Harding University as well as conducts and supervises undergraduate research projects. Dr. Wilson is a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Sigma Xi Research Societies, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Planetary Society, National Space Academy, American Chemical Society and the Arkansas Academy of Science.
