Capt. Krystal Swain teaches AeroSTEM (Aerospace STEM) and LSU STEM Pathways to Careers at Dutchtown Middle School in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. She is an Assistant Director of Aerospace Education (CAP), a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), Louisiana Wing. She is also an Emergency Services Mission Scanner for her CAP squadron. For over 12 years, Krystal has immersed herself in Science and STEM education by serving on committees, such as the Louisiana Science Standards Committee, LEAP Stimulus and Questioning Committees, Science and STEM Benchmark Writing Committees for Ascension Parish, and Leadership Committee at her home school of Dutchtown Middle. 

Capt. Swain is an Alumni of NASA’s Lift-off Summer Institute, an Ambassador and Crew Member for the Pioneer Moon Mission Experience with Space Nation. She has presented and facilitated STEM workshops for educational programs/conferences such as SEEC, Louisiana 4H Clover College, Dutchtown High School's Women in STEM, and Ascension Parish’s Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron Aerospace Education nights. Also, presented/facilitated the Wing Academy Moon Extravaganza, and is the sponsor/host of her own school's DMS STEM+ after school program and STEM nights.

Krystal won the award for CAP Aerospace Education Member of the Year for Louisiana for 2023. She has been featured in local, state, and national publications for her contributions to science and aerospace education. At her home campus, she is passionate about having more STEM opportunities available and STEM+ (DMS after school program) brings AeroSTEM and STEM to more students in her community.
