Solar System Ambassadors
Jesse Gates

Jesse is an Education and Dark Sky Specialist at Voyageurs Conservancy, the official nonprofit partner for Voyageurs National Park. His personal goal is to make science fun and accessible for everyone so that they feel connected, appreciate nature, and in turn are inspired to do more good in the world.
For several years he worked with the National Park Service as a seasonal interpretive park ranger and education technician. He worked at multiple national park sites across the country which allowed him to learn how to teach about a variety of subjects while engaging with crowds of all backgrounds and sizes. It was also during this time that he developed his love for the night sky.
Within the last few years he decided to leave the seasonal lifestyle and join as a permanent team member with his current job at Voyageurs Conservancy. Here, he feels he is able to fully dedicate his time and passion towards making a bigger impact on environmental stewardship. As Education and Dark Sky Specialist he spends his days creating and delivering lessons, leading K-5 school field trips in the park, and showing audiences the wonders of our star studded night skies at our International Dark Sky certified Park.
His personal favorite nighttime activities are standing underneath the milky way with our powerful 18”-inch Obsession telescope, learning new constellations, and searching for all 110 Messier objects
