Héctor Noriega-Mendoza

Dr. Héctor Noriega-Mendoza is an astrophysicist, educator and science communicator in the El Paso-Juárez metropolitan area, referred by him to as the ParMagnus (short for Parallelus Magnificus, the "Magnificent Parallel"). A faculty member at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Physics Department since 2007, Noriega-Mendoza's research interests are exoplanet characterization and exoplanet dynamics through numerical simulations, which led him to found the ParMagnus observatory (2023) and create the Exoplanet Group (2024) at UTEP. Héctor Noriega-Mendoza is a co-founder of the Juárez Astronomical Society and while at UNAM in México City as a graduate student, he organized and coordinated "Project Contact: scientists go to the movie theaters" in five Mexican cities, where scientists attended the movie theaters to discuss various topics addressed by science-fiction movies. In 2019 at UTEP Dr. Noriega-Mendoza launched the ParMagnus astronomy project, including both research and outreach activities aimed at UTEP students and the general public. He currently works on building a local digital community of ParMagnus citizen scientists.
