Erin Lewis is a science and history educator at the Air Zoo, an aerospace and science center located in Portage, MI. As a Secondary Education History and Earth/Space Science teacher in Grand Rapids, she intertwined rocketry, astronomy, and STEM topics into her classes and programs. During her 11 years at the Air Zoo, Erin has written and presented multiple programs for adult learners covering a variety of History and Space Exploration topics, including unique Planetarium presentations in the Air Zoo's Starlab. By presenting multiple live television segments for FOX 17, WXMI and Wood TV 8, she has shared her passion for science to an even larger audience. Through collaboration with SR-71 pilots and crew chiefs, Erin has participated in two Spyposium events at the Air Zoo; a celebration of the Blackbird program. While designing and leading the educational activities for participants, she drew connections between the high-altitude, high-speed reconnaissance plane and the Space Shuttle orbiter in terms of materials and environmental controls. Over the last 3 years, Erin has also worked closely with staff at the American Space Museum/Astronaut Hall of Fame and the Kennedy Space Center to further expand her knowledge on the history of the space program and the Commercial Crew, Artemis, and the James Webb Space Telescope programs. As a member of the Kalamazoo Astronomical Association and educator for the local Osher Life-Long Learner (OLLI) organizations, Erin continues to share her passion for Astronomy and STEM education with the community.
