Eric Sullenberger

Eric Sullenberger is a 7-12 educator who has been a classroom teacher since 2005 and has spent his whole career at Russia Local School. Teaching at a small, rural school in Ohio he is half of the secondary science department. He teaches all the physical sciences, including: 8th grade general science, freshman physical science, chemistry, physics, physical geology, astronomy, & occasionally other classes. He also coaches two Science Olympiad teams, an Envirothon team, a FIRST LEGO League team, and has advised other clubs and served on many committees. Outside of his main job he is also an online tutor and teaches 100-level chemistry classes at Edison State Community College. Eric originally fell in love with science when he was about 4 years old and his father took him outside on a cold winter night and pointed out the Big Dipper and Orion. His fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Baker, deepened his love of science (and especially space science) in the classroom and as she led a Young Astronauts chapter. Mrs. Miller, his 7th grade science teacher and Science Olympiad coach, continued to grow his love and knowledge and science. A world history teacher, Mr. Havas, showed him that he might want to teach, which was encouraged by his guidance counselor (Mr. Cain), and he was inspired to go into science education by his high school physics teacher, Mr. Shade. Eric attended Cedarville University where he met his wife and obtained a BA in Physics. He later earned a MS in Science Education from the University of Dayton, is working on a second Master's degree at Wright State University, and has numerous other college courses in chemistry and science. Physics is what made him want to teach, chemistry has become his favorite to teach, but his first love was and still is astronomy. Outside of teaching in the classroom he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He thrives on sharing his love of science with everyone through active engagement on social media @MrEricSully everywhere) and hosting local talks and events. In addition to being a science promoter, he is an avid birder and amateur astronomer.
