Neil Perlin
Neil Perlin has had a lifelong interest in space exploration and astronomy, starting with designing a moon rocket at age five and taking an astronomy course at age eight through the New York City Astronomy Club in 1959 (thanks to very indulgent parents). He took a long digression into the computer field, where he worked as a technical writer, software tester and trainer, columnist, and self-employed information systems design consultant for over 40 years. But he never quite gave up on space and astronomy, flying aircraft and spacecraft simulators and using telescopes whenever he had a chance. In 2006, some friends introduced Neil to the Stellafane telescope conference in Vermont, and that opened the floodgates. He now builds telescopes, follows observing programs from the Astronomical League, does a lot of public outreach, and generally has fun with space exploration and astronomy. And he still has the sense of wonder about it all that he had at age five.
