Solar System Ambassadors
Jodie McMilon
Jodie McMilon began her own outreach program in the middle of an Orange County, California street where she and her husband lived and raised their kids. Whenever she received a notification the International Space Station would be passing over her house, she went outside and pointed it out to curious neighbors and passersby. She also shared NASA facts and trivia, including who was currently living aboard the ISS and what science projects they were currently performing. Since 1987, while owning and running two successful businesses, Jodie has trained as an amateur physicist and astronomer by reading physics books, touring NASA facilities, taking her family to see rocket launches and on road trips to Cape Canaveral. She saw the first rocket body that landed on an autonomous drone ship in Long Beach Harbor, California, and completed online physics classes from Caltech, Stanford and Higher School of Economics. Along the way, she helped her children and other students with science projects, such as creating ISS models and researching animals in space.
