Marli De Carvalho began her journey in São Paulo, Brazil, where she was born to and raised by a family as diverse as the cosmos itself -- a Japanese mother and an Afro-Brazilian father. From an early age, her gaze was drawn upwards to the stars, and she was captivated by the mysteries of space and our solar system. This fascination planted the seeds of a lifelong curiosity. Afterward, she embarked on a path that led her to Shizuoka, Japan, where she spent three enriching years working in the local City Hall's Foreign Community Outreach program. Here, she dedicated myself to assisting foreign residents in various aspects of their lives, including cultural immersion, healthcare access, language education, and immigration support. It was during this time that her passion for bridging cultures and communities truly took root. Upon arriving in the United States, she joined the International Committee of the Red Cross at the delegation to the United States in Washington, D.C. Here, she played a pivotal role in preserving legal and historical archives, contributing to the organization's mission of upholding humanitarian principles. With a heart committed to humanitarian values, she has continued to serve as an American Red Cross Volunteer in the National Capital Region for an impressive 21 years. She has facilitated International Humanitarian Law training and now leads the Reconnecting Family Links program, aiding individuals in reuniting with their families following separation due to disasters, migration, or armed conflicts. Additionally, as an Inclusion Ambassador at AWS, she has spearheaded a global educational initiative, empowering employees to embrace diversity, foster understanding, and create a more inclusive workplace. Her journey is marked by a deep dedication to humanitarianism and a boundless curiosity about the world around us.
