Solar System Ambassadors
Robert VanGundy
Robert VanGundy has been fortunate to be able to explore his love of astronomy and the space program since he was young. He remembers lying in his backyard with a friend, making up their own constellations, before he knew there were official ones. One of his best memories was his father taking him and a friend on a camping trip to see Apollo 11 launch. He built and flew model rockets and could tell you the characteristics of every launch vehicle that existed. Robert was able to take astronomy courses in college that deepened his love of astronomy. For most of his career, he has worked in jobs that allowed him to share his love for space exploration with the public, although often on the side as a volunteer. He currently works as a seasonal ranger with the National Park Service where he enjoys daily interaction with visitors about the park's skies and the nation's space explorations.
