Solar System Ambassadors
Kenneth Koeplinger
As a recent semi-retired research scientist, Kenneth has had the good fortune in his career to work directly in the diverse fields of materials science, nuclear chemistry, molecular biology, and new drug discovery and development. While now retired from full time work, he is working as an independent biotechnology consultant and devoting time to volunteer work. He is currently working as adjunct chemistry professor to share his experience and enthusiasm for science with younger generations. He feels the neat thing about being semi-retired is being able to devote a bit more time to back-burner interests and passions than when you were committed to a 9-5 schedule. Some of those life-long interests include astronomy, space exploration, and NASA. His NASA interest can be traced back to his childhood and his father's work as a metallurgist involved in lightweight non-flammable magnesium metal alloy selection/production for the Gemini capsules. His interest in astrochemistry includes intra-stellar nuclear fusion and the ongoing search for chemical signatures of life in our Solar System and Universe.
