George Corkern is the Robotics Program Coordinator for the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Bogalusa, Louisiana. He began working in the construction field as a helper at sixteen, but a work accident in 1999 left him disabled. In 2010, he began working his way back into the construction fields which led to the founding of his own construction company in 2021. He began at the YMCA as a volunteer in February of 2022, helping in different positions throughout the Y. He was blessed to be offered the position of Coordinator of the Robotics Program. George learned how to think outside the box growing up in rural America, and how to apply those principles to everyday life. He loves to see those "a-ha!" moments when a child understands a concept or how to do something for the first time. Those “I did it!” moments the kids have is priceless. In his free time, George enjoys playing video games, watching movies, reading about new concepts and inventions, and is passionate about getting out into the community he loves.
