Solar System Ambassadors
Shane Meadows-Yaw
Shane Meadows-Yaw is an aspiring aerospace engineer and space scientist. Growing up in Colorado, Oregon, and California, he has been fixated on the night sky. Whether it be through the trees, oceans, suburbs, or sky, Shane loves to learn more about the world. His admiration for space has guided him through life, leading him to the Aerospace Museum of California, where he currently teaches classes to Sacramento students on space science, aviation, and engineering. He currently attends Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he studies Aerospace Engineering and Astronautics. Eager to apply his skills, he joined the Cal Poly CubeSat Laboratory where he and fellow students design, test, and integrate small research satellites to be launched into space. Shane marvels at the technological beauty of NASA's past, present, and future missions. Some of his favorites are the James Webb Space Telescope, the Perseverance Rover, and Europa Clipper. He, like many others, is anxiously awaiting the Artemis Program to reignite humanity's growth into the solar system and beyond. Shane has been inspired by educators such as Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson to pursue public education. He hopes to become a professor in the future and provide students with opportunities to explore the realm of space science and exploration just like he did. As a Solar System Ambassador, he plans to focus on developing education programs for youth to engage with and experience space engineering. His dream is to give kids the confidence to reach for the stars, and take some pictures while they're up there!
