Aidan Guerra is an Aerospace Science and Engineering major at University of California, Davis, with plans on double majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He is Mexican-American from Vacaville, California. Aidan has been invested in solar system exploration ever since the Rosetta mission encounter with the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014. He remembers being fascinated by seeing the first images sent back by the spacecraft. Over the years, he began learning more about astronomy, and even worked to afford an automated astrophotography set-up. Over the last year he has devoted many nights to comet observations. He has participated in many citizen science projects such as the NASA-funded Sungrazer Project and sent many photometric CCD observations to the Comet Observation Database (COBS). During his time in high school, Aidan was a member of Vanden Robotics FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 701. As a member of the team, he contributed to the design and manufacturing of tubing, shafts, and plates using CNC machines. Additionally, he participated in outreach events at local elementary and middle school for VEX IQ and VEX EDR competitions. Now at university, he is a member of University of California at Davis Aggie Propulsion Lab, member of the Chicanx and Latinx Engineers and Scientists Society (CALESS) at UC Davis, member of the Space and Satellite Systems Club at UC Davis, and a member of Leadership in Engineering Advancement, Diversity and Retention (LEADR) at UC Davis. Outside of his academic endeavors, he is also a docent at the Robert Ferguson Observatory where he gives presentations at monthly star parties about constellations and objects in the night sky.
