Carrie Rebenack
Carrie Rebenack resides outside of Tampa, Florida, but will forever consider herself a farm girl from rural Ohio. She grew up exploring nature on a 5-acre farm. She relished her experiences of taking long bike rides along roads that bisected cornfields, camping out in the yard in a tent of blankets, doing her homework whilst sitting backwards on a horse, and trying to ride very annoyed goats. Her adventures as a child set her on the path of becoming a scientist from a very early age. She felt comfort in knowing that science always presented opportunities to learn new things. After graduating high school, she moved to Florida to study geology. She graduated from Florida International University (FIU) with a Bachelor of Science in Geosciences. She remained at FIU to complete a Ph.D. in Geosciences while conducting a stable isotope dendrochronology study of trees in the Florida Keys, a project that allowed her to explore meteorology, botany, and ecology in addition to her stable isotope biogeochemistry focus. She got married, moved to Tampa, and became an elementary school teacher. She learned that kids are a lot of fun, and they have remarkable scientist minds. She now has 650 kids in her STEAM Lab every week, where they get excited about space-themed challenges and their shared curiosity leads to the most amazing discoveries.
