Solar System Ambassadors
Victor De Los Santos
Victor De Los Santos serves as Executive Director for the South Texas Astronomical Society (also known as STARS). He graduated from Homer Hanna High School in Brownsville in 2013 and Texas A&M University - College Station with a bachelor of science in Business in 2016. His journey into STEM outreach began after he discovered an observatory in his hometown - the Cristina Torres Memorial Observatory, an astronomical facility operated by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Upon making this discovery, he decided he wanted to help spread awareness and excitement for space exploration activities happening in South Texas and beyond. Soon after, he met with a local educator and long-time Solar System Ambassador and organized a star party for the January 2019 lunar eclipse at the elementary school where his mom worked. After witnessing the impact that the event made on the students, he knew he wanted to continue on the path of education and public outreach. Over the next few years, Victor continued to collaborate with local partners to host outreach events and fulfill the mission of connecting community members to space and science with the South Texas Astronomical Society. In 2021, STARS became a member of the inaugural cohort of NASA Informal Education Community Anchors. As the organization expands and new opportunities arise, Victor's passion for sharing space science and STEM education in his community continues to grow.
