Mellissa Smith
Mellissa is currently a homeschool teacher and mentor with a United States homeschool non-profit organization. She has served as a homeschool teacher for almost 20 years, with a specialty in curriculum design. Mellissa holds a B.S. in Anthropology with strong emphasis in science. Prior to her current position, Mellissa served as the Director of Children’s Programs and Children’s librarian, where she created STEM curricula for the area’s youth. Mellissa specializes in curriculum design and education ranging from preschool to early-tertiary levels. Mellissa has served as a teaching assistant in social and behavioral science, and as a homeschool co-op science, Algebra, and English teacher. In addition, she worked as a contractor with local governments on the advancement of rural economics and environmental impact projects, collaborated with global organizations as an anthropologist specializing in potential unforeseen consequences of global development projects, and as a lab assistant at the Biological Anthropology Stable Isotope Facility, processing materials for the Smithsonian Institution. Mellissa has a passion for aerospace, education, and lifelong learning and is currently partnered with her local library, hosting informational events regarding NASA’s research, missions, launches, and projects. She has TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Oxford Certifications, and enjoys serving on the NASA eClips Educator Advisory Board. Mellissa is available for public speaking engagements, online education, classroom visits, school assemblies, and is always delighted to speak to groups interested in learning about the many programs of which NASA is affiliated.
