Solar System Ambassadors
Sophia Morton
Sophia (Phia) Morton is very excited to be a part of the community of Solar System Ambassadors since public education and space exploration are both passions of hers. She is currently an undergraduate student at Oregon State University studying applied physics with a minor in nuclear engineering. Phia plans on doing a Ph.D. in astrophysics and continuing her work in gravitational wave research with NANOGrav (North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves). She discovered her love for public outreach while working at the Oregon Observatory for the past three years and volunteering at Pine Mountain Observatory. Her work there includes operating telescopes for solar and nighttime programs, giving presentations, and co-authoring the Oregon Observatory monthly newsletter. In her spare time, she is an Astronomy Club and Society of Physics Students officer at Oregon State. Her goal is to allow other people to experience the wonderful world of astronomy and space exploration.
