Michael Broughton
Mike Broughton grew up in southeast Michigan during the 1960’s and 70’s. The child of two school teachers, he had a great interest in science especially astronomy and Earth science. He was especially interested in the space race at the time remember staying up to watch the Apollo 11 landing on television. His bedroom was full of models and photos of everything space. When he had free time for drawing in second grade, he was always drawing and coloring the Solar System. He got his first telescope in third grade and was hooked. He attended Michigan State University in the 1980’s where he received a B.S. in Wildlife Management and a B.S. in Forestry. Later, he received a secondary teaching certificate. He started working for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks in 1979, while attending college and began working at nature centers in the system in 1984. He has presented programming to school students and the general public on science, nature and, history. Some of the programs he enjoyed presenting the most have been Astronomy-related.
