Katherine Robertson
Katherine Robertson has always been drawn to science. She took geology in school at Plano Senior High School, and continued her unceasing journey of understanding the natural universe ever since. In 2003 she graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelors degree in Geoscience. She had the honor of receiving a Commonwealth Scholarship to study for her Masters degree at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. While in New Zealand she studied volcanoes, the chemistry of different eruptions, and earned her MSc with First Class Honours in 2004. After her Masters, she had the intention of earning a PhD in deep mantle geochemistry, but instead changed focus to enter the petroleum industry. She left the University of Texas at Austin after a couple of years becoming a petroleum geologist for most of the next decade. In 2016, she left oil and gas behind to spend time with family. While a "stay at home mom", she earned her teaching certificate and in January of 2019, she walked into the classroom to begin her second career as a high school science teacher. Her passion and love for space science, rooted in the mystery of "geology" of alien planets and moons, is evident to all of her students. She loves spending her days "geeking out" about astronomy, cosmology, and Earth science, helping her students fall back in love with science before they graduate high school and enter the world.
