Katie has worked toward a life in space exploration. After being discouraged from studying sciences repeatedly in high school and college, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in political science in 2014. Several years later, she received a second bachelor’s degree in astronomy from the University of Maryland to gain the technical knowledge necessary for a career in science policy and communications. Since 2018, Katie has volunteered at the National Air and Space Museum both in the Preservation and Restoration Hangar at the Udvar Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia and as a Discovery Station volunteer, where she enjoys interacting with visitors and sharing her enthusiasm for space and aviation sciences. She has had four internships at NASA, one at Headquarters, one at Glenn Research Center, and the other two at the Goddard Space Flight Center. She is currently pursuing graduate work in planetary science at the University of Maryland in the Department of Geology.
