Stephanie Demaree
Dr. Stephanie Demaree is a Professor of Education and Multiple Subjects Program Director at Notre Dame de Namur University. She received her doctorate from the University of San Francisco exploring the connection between humans and their relationship to the environment through education and development based on the work of Sister Dorothy Stang. Before coming to NDNU, Dr. Demaree taught science to 6th, 7th and 8th graders in the Diocese of San Jose for six years, underscoring her passion and commitment to inquiry-based science education. She has been active in the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) since 2007, including working with Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE) and Pearson on developing the EdTPA as a benchmarker in middle childhood science, special education inclusive settings and performing arts: music. She was the inaugural national trainer for special education inclusive settings for the national EdTPA. Dr. Demaree collaborated with colleagues to develop the Biological Sciences Teacher Preparation grant and program to promote and produce more science teachers in California. Dr. Demaree continues to conduct STEM education research. For 3 years, Dr. Demaree was the faculty sponsor at NASAs Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) which provided the opportunity for Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) to participate in 5-day MUREP Educator Institutes at each of the 10 NASA Centers, including NASA Ames in Mountain View.
