Without any previous training, Josh Bell set up his first telescope on the deck of the house where he grew up in northern Vermont. It was early winter and incredibly dark. Looking through the viewfinder, he got his first "up close" look at the moon. Ever since then, he has been interested in space exploration. His interest in flight, space, and history led him to join Civil Air Patrol in 2011, where he currently serves as historian and assistant aerospace education officer. In 2014, he began his career with the National Park Service and has served as a Park Ranger at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, Aleutian World War II National Historic Area, and Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park, where he founded the park's Night Sky series.
