Adam Chantry
Adam Chantry spent many years at many different jobs, including auto mechanic and professional musician, before he realized that he had so many jobs because he loved learning new things. That is when the decision was made that teaching would afford the opportunity to learn something new everyday and share his learning experience with others. After graduating from Cabrini College in 2008, he started teaching in the Methacton School District, where he had graduated from 10 year prior. He spent time in 4th and 5th grade before finally landing in 6th grade science. Here he began to explore the use of technology in the classroom and new ways to engage students in what they were learning. In February of his first year teaching 6th grade, his class got to visit the school district's planetarium. Although Adam grew up going to the same school and had visited the planetarium as a student, for some reason when he walked into that planetarium for the first class he was hooked. He wanted to know how all of it worked, the universe, the computer, the slide projectors. He was encouraged and mentored by the director of the planetarium over the next three years as he learned all he could about space and how the planetarium worked. When his mentor left to share his love of space to a wider audience, he jumped at the opportunity to run the planetarium and share his passion of space an technology with students everyday. For the past two years, he has continued to learn and love every second of his job and look forward to continuing to share his passion with larger and larger audiences in the future.
