Jane Carter
Jane H. Carter is a life-long resident of Virginia. She completed received a BS in Chemistry from Emory and Henry College, class of 1985. After working in research and development in the aerospace industry she completed a Master of Science in Environmental Science from East Tennessee State University, class of 1997. In 2000, Jane enter the teaching profession and found her passion -- educating youth and helping them to make connections between the content material presented in the classroom and real-life applications. She has taught not only in the classroom but also in after-school programs as well as multiple extracurricular activities. Jane enjoys all things STEM related and particularly space. In 2009 she was a participant in the weightless flight program and used it as an opportunity to engage her students. Then on October 7, 2012 she had the opportunity to attend her first rocket launch and took a team of students to Cape Canaveral to watch the SpaceX launch which was carrying the students experiment to the ISS. This experience along with attending two additional launches (also carrying student experiments to the ISS) from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) Wallops Island, VA has fueled her love for space. She has help organize several trips for teachers from Southwest Virginia to the eastern shore of Virginia to attend professional development at both the NASA Langley and Wallops Flight Facility. She is still in the classroom teaching chemistry and environmental science and working as the STEM coordinator for an elementary school where her focus is on developing STEM through Students Thinking, Engaged and Motivated. Jane and her husband live the family farm in Castlewood Virginia and enjoy spending time with their family of two boys and a daughter-in-law.
