Bouwman is a Science Teacher at Shumate Middle School (Gibraltar School District) in Gibraltar, Michigan. He is also an Adjunct Science Education Professor at the University of Michigan – Dearborn. Mr. Bouwman is an active participant in Earth-focused citizen science programs, including GLOBE. Mr. Bouwman’s students have collected more than 100,000 GLOBE data measurements (SMAP, cloud formations, and soil, surface, and current temperatures). In September 2016, Mr. Bouwman helped launch the first WeatherSTEM weather station in the state of Michigan - Gibraltar School District WeatherSTEM. Data collected by the weather station is utilized to enhance STEM education, keep the community informed and safe, and is shared with GLOBE.
