Solar System Ambassadors
Marie Zahn
Marie Zahn is an archaeologist and artifact conservator, currently serving as a Museum Director. She received her Bachelor's of Science from Florida Institute of Technology in 2011, where she studied astrophysics, interdisciplinary science, and history. Her love of astronomy led her to pursue a career in the human history of science, receiving a Master of Arts from Florida State in 2013 for her work in Mesoamerican and Indigenous American Archaeoastronomy. Marie specialized in solar archaeoastronomy and the measurement of time through the careful observation and recording of celestial phenomena by ancient societies as evident in their cultural practices, mythology, tools, texts, and archaeological sites. Though her archaeological work is no longer focussed on ancient astronomy, she has never lost her passion for space exploration! Now that she has progressed in her career as a historian and scientist, Marie felt that she was in a position to give back to the community where she grew up. Marie believes that encouraging students to explore the STEM fields and providing opportunities to experience real world applications of science is the key to inspiring the next generation of scholars. A proud member of the Cape Cod pod of the 500 Women Scientists, Marie aims to make science open, inclusive, and accessible to anyone that's curious about the past, present, and future!
