Sudeshna Lahiry is a middle school Science teacher in the greater Houston area. She is extremely passionate about Earth and Space Science, even though she teaches all the different branches of Science to her students. In 2015-2016, she was a Science Teacher Mentor (STM) at Region IV. The STM program provides opportunities for teachers to share, model, and learn research-based best practices that lead to increased student academic development. She was in the first cohort of STEP (Sustainable Trainer Engagement Program) at the Lunar and Planetary Institute. STEP is a NASA-funded project that provides science specialists and lead teachers in the Houston region with in-depth Earth and Space Science content, activities and pedagogy. STEP leaders then assist the participants in their roles as specialists and lead teachers in presenting workshops to other teachers. Sudeshna hopes to be able to take her passion and present to a variety of audiences. She feels her education has equipped her and her enthusiasm will ensure her success.
