Before retiring in 2000, Murray worked at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where he was the Principle Transportation Planner. In 1984, he also started a computer company and built hardware for developing nations under contract with the United Nations and various Universities. Now he and his wife live in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. He keeps up with the space sciences by taking multiple courses in history and science.
