Solar System Ambassadors
Elizabeth Garcia
Elizabeth Garcia was born in Thousand Oaks, California and moved to San Francisco to attend San Francisco State University. After graduating she joined the Peace Corps and became a beekeeper in Paraguay, South America. After returning, she worked for the Department of Fish and Game in Yountville, California. While conducting water quality at Lafayette Reservior, she met a man that five months later became her husband. They have been married for 24 years and have three children. Elizabeth has always been interested in space exploration and science. Her mother fostered the her curiosity and that of her brother by letting them sleep outside during meteor showers, taking them to observatories, and getting them pictures from the Voyager mission. She still studies and continuously monitors space exploration missions and is a huge fan of NASA TV. Elizabeth and her children watch launches, landings, and mission orbital insertions together. They travel to see the solar eclipse and stay out all night and watch the lunar eclipses and meteor showers together. She hopes to instill the wonder and curiosity of the world around us to her own children as her mother did for her.
