Dr. Tracy M. Becker is a planetary scientist specializing in the analysis of UV observations from spacecrafts such as Cassini and the Hubble Space Telescope. Her current research focus is understanding the surfaces of asteroids and Jupiter's moons using data collected from Hubble. She is also involved in the science planning for the ultraviolet instrument Europa-UVS that will be on NASA's Europa Clipper mission, which will study Jupiter's icy moon called Europa. Dr. Becker has been highly involved in science outreach and education since her experience as an undergraduate student working with a select group of talented middle school girls in a multi-week program that discussed the role of women in science before their exclusive meeting with Dr. Sally Ride. Since then, she has developed, organized and implemented local public engagement activities and has collaborated on large, national programs. Her ongoing projects include the development of formal and informal education materials that incorporate the arts into the exploration of the universe for NASA’s Solar System Exploration Virtual Institute. Dr. Becker is vested in developing effective public engagement programs and is especially interested in reaching underrepresented communities in STEM.
