Jon Wallace
Before retiring, Jon Wallace was an award-winning high school science teacher in Meriden, Connecticut for over 32 years. He is past president of the Connecticut Association of Physics Teachers and was an instructor in Wesleyan University’s Project ASTRO program. He managed the Naugatuck Valley Community College observatory and ran many astronomy classes throughout Connecticut. Jon has had an interest in ‘non-visual’ astronomy for over thirty years and has used various receivers to create demonstration devices for class use and public displays. He is on the Board of the Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers (SARA) and is currently the Education Coordinator for SARA, where he developed teaching materials for use with their radio telescope educational project as well as beginner materials for the SARA website and journal. He has also developed an educational video and support materials for a microwave antenna demonstration as posted on the SARA website. Other interests include collecting meteorites, raising arthropods (“bugs”) and insectivorous plants. Jon has a BS in Geology from the University of Connecticut; a Master's Degree in Environmental Education from Southern Connecticut State University and a Certificate of Advanced Study (Sixth Year) in Science (Astronomy) from Wesleyan University. He currently lives in Maine and gives presentations in schools, libraries and other venues in the Freeport area.
