Michael Ward was one of those kids in school that always said "astronaut" whenever someone asked what he wanted to be when he grew up. He still may give that answer now in his 40s. But now robotics on Mars has really captured his attention. He has built a small rover complete with solar panels, camera, and a metal detector for simulating Mars missions of his own. He also started manufacturing a small solar powered rover kit designed to teach children about solar energy. Currently he is working on a full scale working replica of the first Mars rover, Sojourner, and hopes to have it completed soon. Michael is an advocate for all things science and loves to share that passion with everyone around him. He once entertained his nephews for hours with magnets and a big pile of dirt, showing them that anybody can do science and that science can be done anywhere.
