Ted Avraham, a proud father of two, has been a space enthusiast and an amateur astronomer since 1996. He has taught space and astronomy as a hook for STEM to youngsters from kindergarten to 10th grade. Originally a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyst, Ted takes joy as well as pride in his work to proliferate awareness for space. Part of Ted's outreach is done with the general public. He organized and coordinated colloquiums, star parties, sidewalk observing sessions and satellite viewings, gave lectures and more. Ted believes that space has become so relevant to our lives, that the "Informed Citizen" should be aware of the advantages and contributions of space exploration. Ted has presented at a number of international conferences, including the International Astronautical Congress' of 2013, 2014, 2015. Ted escorted astronauts on visits while living overseas, traveled to watch the STS-133 launch, consulted on space education matters, composed teaching materials, operated telescopes and planetariums, and always made time to answer a space question. Ted has observed four total solar eclipses so far. In addition to hundreds of hours gained in teacher training seminars, Ted completed his MA thesis on Serendipitous Learning in Science Education. Ted is currently building his second DIY telescope (and the third one is on the way.)
