Ted Avraham
Ted Avraham has been a space enthusiast and an amateur astronomer since 1996. He teaches space and astronomy as a hook for STEM to youngsters from kindergarten to 10th grade. Originally a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyst, Ted takes joy as well as pride in his work to proliferate awareness for space. Part of Ted's outreach is done with the general public. He organizes and coordinates colloquiums, star parties, sidewalk observing sessions and satellite viewings, give lectures and more. Ted believes that space becomes so relevant to our lives, that the Informed citizen should be aware of space exploration's advantages. Ted presented at the International Astronautical Conferences of 2013 and 2014 and will present in 2015. He escorted astronauts on visits while living overseas, traveled to be an audience to the STS-133 launch, consulted on space education matters, composed teaching materials, operated telescopes and planetariums, and always made time to answer a space question. In addition to hundreds of hours gained in teacher training seminars, Ted will complete his MA thesis on Serendipitous Learning in Science Education. He was recently appointed as a research assistant in the Physics Department at Duke University in North Carolina where he will conduct interdisciplinary research on science education.
