Jon Hutman presently resides in Mesa, Arizona where he serves as the principal at the Leading Edge Academy East Mesa campus. He has over 18 years of experience as an educator in traditional public, charter, and private school settings ranging from elementary to high school levels. Even as a school leader, Jon’s passion for astronomy and STEM education shines. His goal is to utilize astronomical events, NASA missions, and leaders in the aerospace industry to inspire the next generation of space explorers. Jon is an active member of the OSIRIS-REx asteroid sample return mission and he can be found giving mission updates and briefings through his school and community. Over the years Jon has organized many large scale outreach events called “Family Space Night" in which he brings together like minded aerospace and astronomy groups for a night of outreach. Jon is also on the Advisory Board for Higher Orbits, a non-profit company with the mission to inspire and engage students through the use of spaceflight, in hands-on, project based learning experiences. Jon is a regular presenter for Higher Orbits Go For Launch! events in Arizona. Jon’s goal is to provide students and the general public an opportunity to better understand the wonders of our universe and to also have accessibility to the incredible people and processes of space exploration.
