Careers in Genesis

Careers in GenesisAll kinds of people work on the Genesis project. In addition to providing information about the people of the Genesis mission, one purpose of this site is to explain the types of careers that go into supporting the work of any NASA mission.

This part of the Genesis outreach Web site is organized around The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), a publication of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That publication contains information about the variety of career options available to today's students.

The OOH career information is arranged into clusters of related occupations. Seven of these career clusters are represented among the people who work on the Genesis mission. They are as follows:

  • Executive, Administrative and Managerial Occupations Careers in Genesis
  • Administrative Support Occupations
  • Service Occupations
  • Professional and Technical Occupations
  • Mechanics, Installers, and Repairers
  • Production Occupations
  • Handlers, Equipment Cleaners, Helpers, and Laborers

Careers in GenesisSeveral individual occupations are included in each cluster. From each of the cluster names below, you can find individual occupations. By clicking on an occupation, you will find a brief description, a link to the full description, an archive of interviews with Genesis team members, and access to other aerospace career resources.

As John Hicks, the artist who designed one of the Genesis mission patches, says, "Space exploration is driven by dreamers. And so, even those who can't do the science can take part in the dream."
