The Genesis samples are the first extraterrestrial samples returned to the Earth by NASA since the Apollo program, which ended in the early 1970s.

The solar wind samples collected by Genesis are stored at NASAÍs Johnson Space Center Astromaterials Curation Facility in Houston, TX. This facility is also responsible for the lunar sample, meteorite, and Mars sample. The purpose of the facility is to maintain in pristine condition of all samples that comprise a priceless national and scientific resource while making the samples available to approved scientists.
