Patch designed by the San Gabriel Valley Chapter of the Boy Scouts showing Stardust's encounter with Comet Wild 2

"Stardust Goes to Camp" with the San Gabriel Valley Council of Boy Scouts

NASA's Stardust mission will be represented at this years 2001 National Scout Jamboree held July 23 to August 1, 2001 at Fort A.P. Hill in Caroline County, Virginia on the sleeve of 4000 local San Gabriel Valley boy scouts. The San Gabriel Valley Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America has selected NASA's fourth Discovery Mission and Jet Propulsion Laboratory as the best representation of the area in which they live.

Troop patches will be traded throughout the week long event and troop members will give presentations to other scouts across the United States at this year's Jamboree about Stardust and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. All participating troops have designed a "gateway" or entrance into their camp site area. San Gabriel Valley troops gateway will display atop a 22-foot (6.7 meters) tall by 33-foot (10.1 meters) wide gateway the Stardust spacecraft encountering comet Wild 2 along with various Stardust images and mission description. This years theme for the jamboree is "Strong Values, Strong Leaders, Character Counts."

Fort A.P. Hill will welcome 37,000 Boy Scouts and 5,000 scout leaders - and another 50,000 visitors daily during this years events. The troop has designed 'gateway" which will be the entrance gate that each troop prepares for the Jamboree. The Stardust mission has supplied images to be used in the gateway display.
