Stardust spacecraft during Earth Gravity Assist flyby, 20 second CCD image on 2001 Jan 15th at 10:04UT at a range of 31,720 km. Images taken by Gordon Garradd with a home made 45cm f/5.4 Newtonian (and AP-CCD from the Planetary Society Gene Shoemaker NEO observing grant) from Loomberah NSW Australia.

STARDUST From Camarillo Observatory, California

Dodging clouds, John E. Rogers was able to get a sequence of images as the spacecraft approached from a distance of 214,000 kilometers (132,000 miles) to 107,000 kilometers (66,000 miles). The last image was taken approximately 4 hours prior to closest approach. The sequence was obtained from Camarillo Observatory in California, using the Helin 0.3m Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope. Each image was 60 seconds in length. The indicated times are for the mid-point of exposure on 2001 January 15. |
