Aimee Whalen-Meyer joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory
in May 1991. Her career at JPL has taken her from
working directly with the Magellan Science Team
in her role as Science Secretary to working jointly
with the Mars Pathfinder Project in 1993 as the
Assistant Education and Outreach Lead. In mid-1997,
she joined the Stardust Project as the Opportunity
and Outreach Manager, bringing a wide range of
successful knowledge of education and general
public outreach procedures necessary for a successful
outreach program. During her tenure, Aimee has
independently developed a thematic small bodies
exploration outreach group, working to achieve
successful partnering between JPL, NASA's Centers
relating to small bodies, and the Applied Physics
Laboratory at John Hopkins University. This thematic
outreach approach has proven to be on the cutting-edge
of outreach along with being a tremendous financial
benefit for all institutions and programs involved.
She has been the recipient of a variety of group
achievement awards ranging from the NASA Group
Achievement Award, Magellan and Mars Pathfinder
Group Achievement Awards, and the Thomas O. Paine
Award for the Achievement of Human Exploration
of Mars. In June 1999, she was awarded the SESPD
NOVA Award for Leadership and has recently been
nominated for the NASA Award for Excellence in
the Area of Leadership.
