Deploy
an aerogel cushion to absorb particles? Good guess! Aerogel is an amazing
substance‹it's a porous substance 1,000 times less dense than glass. By absorbing
the comet particles that might damage the spacecraft, It would protect STARDUST
well.
But aerogel is an expensive substance to make. There are cheaper options—and in NASA's Discovery program, cheaper is better! So try again!
