Jon Hutman presently resides in Phoenix, Arizona where he teaches 5th grade Science at BASIS Mesa. Jon always finds ways to utilize NASA resources in his classroom. He has participated in NASA workshops and professional development activities at Kennedy Space Center, Arizona State University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Kitt Peak, and the University of Arizona. He also graduated from Honeywell?s Space Camp for Educators in 2009.
The high quality and practical trainings inspired Jon to develop Family Space Night program in his school district. Family Space Night is a combination of local astronomy clubs, STEM challenges, NASA guests, current mission updates, and countless hands on activities for hundreds of guests annually.
Jon?s goal is to provide students with an opportunity to see and feel what a STEM based career with NASA could eventually become. By using the engineering design process, students simulate NASA related objectives and missions in the classroom.
