Lauren Hollen has had four careers. First as a laboratory research technician for Dr. Richard Russell at Caltech in Pasadena working on the genetics of the nematode and later for Dr. Paul Chou at the Los Angeles County Arboretum in Arcadia on the plant pathogen, Tobacco Mosaic Virus.
Her second career was raising her children. During that time, she volunteered in the PTA for eighteen years and served as president of several local school organizations.
When her children graduated from high school, she missed the environment so much that she got her teaching credential and worked at Tehachapi High School for 19 years. While there, she taught Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics to all grades. She was the Science Department Chair from 1998 to 2006. Lauren also taught science courses at Mt. San Antonio Community College.
Her fourth career is as an Inyo National Forest Interpretive Ranger at Schulman Grove in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Lauren very much enjoys sharing the awe of holding a 7600-year old tree cross-section.
